Our Michigan!

For social studies we began talking about continents, countries, states and cities and how they fit within each other. I thought it would be a great idea to print out a map of our state that they could color then outline in yarn to really get familiar with our state. In the State of Michigan we are blessed with a beautiful and unique state that I believe all of our students should be aware of. We put a star where our city is so that they would have an idea where they were on what to them seems like a huge state It was also some great fine motor practice because it wasn't easy to glue the string around the boarder.

By far my favorite thing we have done thus far. I found this adorable poem online (unknown author) and simply printed it at the top of each paper. We read the poem as a class then made a chart about what happens in fall/autumn. This was the first time we have painted anything this year so they were extra excited. The tree is their hand print (we then added a trunk because i figured it would be too messy to paint their arms as well) and the leaves are their finger prints. I will definitely be doing this with my future class.

Skip Counting

My kids absolute favorite video thus far. They rap and dance the whole time while trying to keep up with the counting. It's awesome practice and will probably be a favorite all year even when we are way beyond skip counting!

Learning about Clocks!

Today we learned about clocks, so thanks to Pinterest I found these cute make it yourself clocks that allowed us to talk about the numbers that go on a clock as well as the different hands and what they mean. The students enjoyed making their clocks and wanted to take them home however we will be using them tomorrow to work on time to the hour. It was a super simple project only requiring paper plates, two colors of construction paper, markers and a brad. To make it a little easier for my first graders I pre-folded the orange squares (so that they would be close to the same size) so all they had to do was cut them out and write on them. I also made the green arrows because they were a little more complicated. Not only did it teach about the clock but it allowed for more number writing practice which we are always in need of!

Welcome to my Blog!

I am extremely excited to be able to share with you fun projects and lessons I have come across as well as tried out in my classroom. I absolutely love anything hands on and crafts are my favorite. With Halloween coming up there are plenty to do and I cannot wait to do them all!
I plan to add activities and resources that parents will be able to use with their children as well as teacher resources that I have found to be extremely helpful. Enjoy!
